First, a breath.

Every time Instagram opens, an hourglass drains while you breathe in and out. Three to twenty seconds, longer with each open today if you like.

02 · Decide

Then, the honest number.

How many times you've tried to open it in 24 hours, and what today cost so far. Closing is the big button. Continuing is the quiet link.

03 · Choose

How much time do you need?

Drag the dial, from one to fifty minutes. It remembers your last choice. Try dragging it →↑

When it's over, it's over.

A full hourglass and what the session cost. Close, or choose a new limit after a 3-second pause. No “just five more”.

A pause before Instagram

An hourglass and one breath every time it opens, then how many times you've tried today. It can grow longer with each open.

A limit you choose

Drag a dial from 1 to 50 minutes. When time's up you close it or pick a new limit. There's no “5 more minutes” button.

Live counter pill

Time on Reels and reels watched float over Instagram. The ring fills as your limit runs out and turns amber in the last minute.

Brain pal + daily cap

A little brain counts today's reels and its mood follows: happy, tired, worried, fried. At your cap: “Your brain is full.”

Every reel at 2×

Uses Instagram's own “hold, slide to lock 2×”, once per reel. Waits for the hint, confirms the lock, skips ads.

Auto scroll, every session

Switches on Instagram's own Auto scroll at the start of each session, reading the toggle first so it never flips it off.

Private by design

It can't phone home.
There is no phone.

ReelRein has no internet permission. The build fails if it ever appears. Nothing it sees can leave your device: no accounts, no analytics, daily totals only.

Four steps. About a minute.

  1. 01

    Download & open

    Download ReelRein.apk and open it. If Play Protect warns about an unknown developer: More details → Install anyway.

  2. 02

    Turn on accessibility

    In ReelRein: Finish setup → Open → Installed apps → ReelRein → On. Greyed out? App info → ⋮ → Allow restricted settings.

  3. 03

    Allow background running

    Tap Allow on the setup card so your phone doesn't switch ReelRein off.

  4. 04

    Open Instagram

    You'll see the pause screen. That's it.

Good to know.

Why isn't it on the Play Store?

Accessibility-based tools are hard to get through Play review. ReelRein is open source and signed; every release lists its SHA-256 and certificate fingerprint on GitHub.

Does it read my messages or captions?

No. It only looks for a handful of Instagram's own button labels (the 2× hints, ad labels, menu items) and never stores, logs or uses any other text: no captions, comments, usernames or messages.

My banking app refuses to open.

Turn on bank-safe mode: ReelRein switches its accessibility service off whenever Instagram is closed, so banking apps work normally.

It stopped working after a while.

Your phone probably killed it to save battery. Set battery to “No restrictions”, enable Autostart (vivo / iQOO, Xiaomi, Oppo) and lock ReelRein in Recents.

Which phones does it support?

Android 8.0 and newer. 2× and Auto scroll rely on Instagram's English labels; counting, limits and the pill work in any language.
